No.12 Boiler:
This boiler was converted by the Japanese to burn wood. Considerable repairs will be required to re- convert it and bring it up to pre-war standard. It is not required to meet the load envisaged, although it was operated by the R.A.F. for about one month as the sole means of generat- ing steam during the early re-occupation of the Colony, and therefore providing the whole supply of electricity during those critical days.
No.11 Boiler: This boiler was similarly abused by the Japanese. It has not been in operation since the re- Occupation. At the present time it is being overhauled and it is hoped that it will be ready for steaming in January. Although strictly speaking neither of these two boilers are required to provide steam to meet the load envisaged, it is fair that due regard should be paid to the conditions pre- vailing since the re-occupation of the Colony, and it is considered that one or other of these two boilers should be rehabilitated at Government expense. The Company consider that both should come within the terms of reference, having regard to the fact that the R.A.F. effected certain temporary repairs to enable this boiler to be lighted up and steamed as stand-by to No.12 if need be, but do not wish to press the point.
No.10 Boiler:
This boiler was installed about 1923,
and having regard to its age, it is in very fair condition, with the exception of certain ducting and ash hoppers. It is in commission at the present time. This boiler has been given a rough overhaul and is safe to operate.
It is not intended or anticipated that any serious maintenance should or will be effected in the case of boilers 7-10, having regard to the age of the plant.
No.9 Boiler: Generally similar observations apply.
No.8 Boiler: This boiler is out of commission at the present time, and I have made an inspection, and in my opinion, the boiler is good for several years service, when
I am given to the necessary repairs have been completed. understand that the condition of this boiler is generally rather better than that of Nos.9 and 10.
No.7 Boiler:
This boiler is in commission, and I am informed that its condition is generally similar to that of No.8.
No.2 Boiler: 'This boiler has been converted to oil
It remains firing and so far the results are satisfactory. to be seen whether this conversion will result in increased maintenance.
No.1 Boiler: This boiler has carried the main load for the past two months and judging by the performance, the general condition cannot be too unsatisfactory, although it is known that certain repairs are necessary before the boiler can be considered in reasonable condition.
10. Coal Handling Plant:
Jeffery Coal Loaders: All three Jeffery coal loaders are in very poor condition and will need extensive overhaul and replacements before they are in a reasonable state of repair.
